ABSTRACT

Abstract is a challenge for any artist now as it’s been so extensively explored over past decades. I’ve always been drawn to Rothko’s work, his room at the Tate Modern is one of the greatest artistic experiences in the world. Pollock had made little impression on me until I saw them  in real life. Part of the power is in the scale, and that's why I love to paint abstract on a big scale.

I flirt with abstract increasingly - it expresses my fascination for colour and light, Have a look closer at some of the pieces by clicking on them. They really need to be viewed in real life, but there are details within the seemingly abstract brushstrokes and marks. Creation has around 100 creatures derived from San rock art, The Return of the Game a line of elephants returning - but the viewers' eyes need to adjust before picking up these almost subliminal details.
