This new series explores the history of New York City through my observations of architectural details and public artworks in different part of Manhattan .
I’ve been visiting the city each year in spring for a charity event I donate artworks too. This started about 10 years ago, and I’d spend a few weeks walking the streets and recording observations with my iPhone. I grew interested in the history around me, and started digging in archives – NYPL, the Library of Congress and other collections.
Back in Joburg, I worked with the images, combining old and new, and then developed lithographs with Joe at LL Editions, printed in editions of 10. More recently I travelled back to New York to capture the image I needed for The Plaza print, which is a giclee print.
The work will be launched in New York City in 2018.
