I’ve been photographing doorways for the past decade in various cities. What started with a recording of architectural memories (in Johannesburg) evolved into a documentary of sorts of New Yorkers passing by particularly striking doorways which framed them at a moment in time. This process has been repeated in New York, in sometimes very challenging situations – fighting both weather and traffic from awkward positions over prolonged periods. The Paris door is the most recent, shot during a freezing cold week in December.
