For the past decade I've been captivated by the silent stories told by doorways. What started with a recording of Johannesburg’s architectural memories, and my observation of its rapidly changing urban landscape has evolved into a documentary of urban life across New York, Paris, Zanzibar and Athens, Greece. Doorways is an ongoing body of work, where I photograph people from these various cities as they pass by particularly striking doorways which frames them at a moment in time. These doorways are like witnesses to the progression of history and modernity in architecture and the flow of human existence; they serve as markers of movement in capturing the rhythmic pace of each city. I’ve repeated this process in New York and at times found myself in challenging situations, battling weather conditions and traffic from awkward positions over prolonged periods. These experiences have not only tested my resilience but also enriched the narrative of my work. Through my lens, I aim to highlight the unnoticed and the overlooked, inviting viewers to pause and reflect on the transient nature of our movement in the environments we inhabit.
