This body of work from the 2012 exhibition titled Creation reflects organic shapes carved out of landscape by water as seen from the air – the beauty of looking at the earth from an aeroplane window. The artist uses the flow of watery paint across a horizontal canvas (they are painted on the floor of the studio) to mimic the way the landscape was formed, before overlaying with thin washes of oil to refine structure and colour.
The hues and formal elements that emerge highlight the abstract nature that the land takes on when viewing it from above. The images have a fractal quality. in which similar patterns recur at progressively smaller scales, and so the perspective of the viewer defines what is seen.
