This series explores the traces of architectural history along is Johannesburg’s oldest street, Commissioner. Photographic observations of buildings are overlaid with imprints from manhole covers made on the city streets.
The street includes Joburg’s original Chinatown, colonial and Victorian grandeur, modernist and brutalist skyscrapers (such as Africa’s tallest, Carlton Centre), abandoned buildings which bear scars of the city’s dark years, and restored buildings.
This work was exhibited with Ayanda Mabulu at Hazard Gallery, Cosmopolitan building, Maboneng, from December 2016 – January 2017.
