I believe painting and drawing are the foundations of all art, so even when I am working in other mediums, I always return to both of these practices. Painting for me is both meditation and exploration, in the quiet time in the studio my mind can wander while I mix the paint, and the compositions allow me to plan with combinations which may result in sculptures, prints or photography later – each is influenced by the others. Lately, I have been using an impasto style, exploring light across scenes where my sculptures stand, plants and gardens I am working with, and wild landscapes which have moved me.
